Intro to Islamic Geometry

I am teaching a half day workshop at MERA in Mac Donald’s Corners.

March14, 2020 - 1:00-4:30 pm

This half day workshop will serve as an introduction to Islamic geometric patterns. Participants will learn about the different families of patterns and draw two patterns, using the same methods craftsmen have been using the Islamic world for centuries.

You will learn how to transfer the patterns onto watercolour paper and, if time allows, embellish them with a double weave.
Participants will receive a handout package with instructions for pattern construction.
No previous experience necessary and no math involved.

Materials needed:
- Compass. Preferably one that locks (with a screw in the middle).
- 12 inch (or more) ruler, transparent if possible.
-Pencils (2H, HB and 2B is ideal).

To register:
Payment of $45 is due at the time of registration to MERA via cheque, cash or e transfer (to meraschoolhouse@gmail.com). Closing date is one week before the workshop. Please note: no refunds for participant cancellations after that deadline. You will be notified, and refunded if necessary, if there is a workshop cancellation or postponement due to weather or insufficient registrations. To register, please email Trina at meraschoolhouse@gmail.com
